Notes.
Finally got Harry Potter tickets, but am disappointed in them. We sat on it too long and they filled the first theater I guess so we got one of the other ones. I'm not really that picky about the technical aspect but I have never once had as much fun at a midnight showing of a movie in one of the overflow theaters as I did in the first, because those are the most enthusiastic fans. My friend who loves the movies but never read the books is going with me and it doesn't bother her as much, but it does me. A lot. I mean you'd think everyone at a midnight show would be enthusiastic, but it's like so many of them just aren't, which is disappointing. I guess I'm just kind of sad about this, as I think Half-Blood Prince is the most emotional of the series (well...honestly the last may be moreso, but it could just be because how can the end of something so monumental not be?), and I wish I could share that with a theater full of people who feel that. But I'm not sure I will in this case.
Saw Bruno. Personally I thought it was better than Borat, although it could be this is because it took me ages to see Borat because I had no movie theater access at the time so I had heard, uh, everything that happened in the movie already. I mean it had a lot of the same things going for it, but I thought that this one was kind of the Hot Fuzz to Sacha Baron Cohen's Shaun of the Dead. It was more mature...not when it comes to the humor itself of course but in structure. I think it resembled more of a feature than a collection of sketches than Borat did; I think Bruno himself is a more likeable character than Borat, and I personally thought that the, uh, social issues it tackled were greater. I guess that's strictly a matter of opinion, but for me anyway, and I thought that when it tried to make and illustrate points it did them with greater clarity. The last ten minutes were unspeakably amazing.
I think that Sacha Baron Cohen is as brilliant a satirist as Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, whose talents are almost impossible to live up to; it seems that few can make you laugh and make a point at the same time very well. ( More and pretty much spoiler-free. )
I want to add here, just to be clear, that I think that Borat is a masterpiece of its own. But I just think that Bruno is better, smarter, faster, stronger.
And in other topics, before the movie there was a Gamer trailer. To be honest with you, I am actually more excited about this movie than I am about any movie this summer. I'm not even exaggerating. I'm measuring this based on the fact that whenever I see the trailer I feel a bizarrely unexpected excitement. I cannot wait. This is the first time I've seen it attached to a movie so it feels kind of great to know I didn't just imagine it one night sitting at my computer.
On a related note, the best part of Bruno was a shot where there was a Dexter billboard behind him. Yeah...I noticed. I find it amazing actually that I can apparently sense Dexter as much as see it; I suspect it has something to do with being so familiar with the promos and ads that I can recognize them easily without having to figure out where I know it from. This was my favorite part of the movie.
And that big Dexter ad in Hancock was likewise my favorite part of that movie.
I love how even when I'm going to the movies to see Bruno the experience still manages to be infused with Dexter Morgan. But I didn't make this up...it was there! I saw it! I'm only saying.

I'm sick.
This sucks.
I took two days off work last week, went in yesterday mostly out of boredom even though I still felt like poopie shit.
Have loads on this weekend, including a birthday get together at one of Phil's friends houses which I've never been to before, and a birthday BBQ for his Dad tomorrow where I get to meet family I've not met before.
And I still feel like poopie shit.
Oh good.
*headdesk*
*wishes she has the Alice from the L word icon that says this coffee tastes like poopie shit on it*

So I've just finished Cross Game (well, the books that are currently available, I mean, since it's still ongoing). I love it a whole hell of a lot, and now I'm planning to start Katsu!, another manga by Mitsuru Adachi-sensei, since he's clearly a brilliant author and I want to read more of his works. There's only one thing that I'm somewhat worried about... according to this forum thread, some of his series contain cases of violence against girls. I suppose it's not brutal violence, and I honestly can't remember anything like that in Cross Game (but I must confess that I don't always pay enough attention to details when I'm too excited ;;; maybe it's a really minor scene?)... still, it doesn't sound nice. Frankly speaking, I don't like it when guys hit girls. I'm not saying that it's okay for girls to hit guys, I'm generally against most types of violence, which is why I'm not too crazy about certain tsundere characters, but... how should I put it... such situations always remind me of partiarchal male dominance, which is a huge problem in my country (and in some Asian countries, too). In other words, slapping often feels like a casual demonstration of superiority, and not just a pure emotional outburst. Besides, an average guy is more likely to be stronger than an average girl. So yeah, all in all, it doesn't sit well with me. Oh well... I'll try to analyze these situations myself.

And then there was my father's Yahrzeit...it's a Jewish thing. It's been two years since his death, and the Jewish calendar date for this came today, so I've lit a 24-hour candle in his memory.
Miss you, Dad.

I'm pleased to say that we were able to join in the joy at our friends' (Teresa and Derek) daughter's (Aubrey) wedding at a little park/historical monument in Placentia, this afternoon. Teresa catered it, and she served up some very nice dishes. Her baked beans, for example, are terrific.
We were forced to leave early due to a phone call from
forestcats brother, who called about her mother having a turn for the worse, but by the time we got home, the crisis had passed, and she was more comfortable. Home, we did a few necessary things, like emptying the corral for the arrival of a number of bales of hay for the equines. I also pulled up the last of the carpet's undermat in the front bedroom, and vacuumed the wooden flooring. New carpets tomorrow.
I'm going to embarass myself, tomorrow, at services, as I haven't memorized my chanting of the Haftorah for this date. I just never found enough time to do that; I should have set aside other things, but I felt too stressed (proof: my regained weight...) to sit and study. Oh, well, so I won't chant, but I will read, and if they don't like it, they can tell me so.
So there...I guess.

Hi everyone. I was just wondering... Does the Special Edition of Gundam 00 just come in a box with the DVD + manga, and the DVD looks exactly the same as the RE? Or does it have a different cover?
Photos would be awesome. Thanks!
PS North American DVD release! .^^
